If you've been following our Fact Fridays for a while, you may already know that Charlotte got its "hornet's nest" nickname from British General Cornwallis himself, referring to Charlotte as a "hornet's nest of rebellion" during a skirmish in 1780. This skirmish was known as the Battle of Charlotte and this year is the 239th Anniversary.
On August 31 and September 1, Historic Latta Plantation will host its annual Revolutionary War weekend with battle reenactments and live demonstrations! You’re invited to step back in time to 1780 and learn why Mecklenburg County was known as “The Hornet’s Nest of Rebellion.” Attendees will be able to experience firsthand how the military and their followers lived during the Revolutionary War through authentic, historic encampments for both the Patriots and the Crown. Per their website, there will be food and beer vendors, plus historic merchants selling their wares.
