Fact Friday 413 - More about the Alexander Plantation Slave Cemetery

Happy Friday!

This week's Fact Friday come to you from the good folks at UNC Charlotte's Special Collections & University Archives. Be sure to follow them on Instagram if you don't already!

The W.T. Alexander Plantation Slave Cemetery is located in the Thornberry Apartments complex near the intersection of Mallard Creek Church Road and US 29, just beyond the boundaries of UNC Charlotte’s campus. We recently received a book in which W.T. Alexander wrote the birth dates of the children of Violet and Solomon Alexander, who are buried in this cemetery. The book also contains death dates for some of their children and grandchildren, including Sam Walker, a formerly enslaved man pictured here with a descendant of the Alexander family in the early 1940s.
